More Patients Through Managed Referrals

How to Get More Referrals and Retain Patients Longer

Whether you’re a general dentist or a specialist, referrals are one of the most valuable marketing tools you have.

People who are referred to you by someone they trust are far more likely to become paying patients than people who just stumbled across your website.

Specialists and general dentists can be great referral network members for each other, but it’s important for both parties to manage the patient relationship in a way that maximizes the benefit of each referral for everyone involved.

If you’re a general dentist:

Most specialists are also general dentists, and many general dentists are performing more and

more procedures that used to be performed by specialists.

For example, some general dentists offer Invisalign instead of referring their patients to an

orthodontist.

However, in many cases, the patient still requires the specialized services of an orthodontist.

With the Un-DSO, referrals are managed to promote the relationship between the general

dentist and the patient while extending the referral network so the patient also has the benefit

of the specialists that the patient needs.

If you’re a general dentist, you have two options.

Option 1: Refer the patient to a specialist in another office without any system for promoting the relationship between the patient and you as the referring general dentist. With this option, you risk losing the patient to the specialist who is also a general dentist.

Option 2: Tell the patient that they need to schedule a time to see the specialist at your office.

With this option, you risk losing the patient to a specialist they find through a search on Google or social media, because they did not want to wait for an appointment to see the specialist at your office.

With the Un-DSO, referrals are managed with our proprietary Network Management Organization or NMO process to promote the relationships among the general dentist and the patient and the general dentist and the specialists in the NMO managed referral network, so the patient has the benefit of the specialists that the patient needs and the general dentist is better able to reduce the risk of losing the patients that they refer to specialists.

If you’re a specialist:

Simply being a specialist isn’t always enough to get you referrals.

You need to create a plan and take action to ensure that you get frequent referrals from the      general dentists and other specialists you work with. You also need to make sure that the         referred patients’ records are being transmitted to you in a HIPAA-compliant manner.

That’s why the Un-DSO provides a HIPAA-compliant Records Referral System, or HRRS, to        ensure that both your referrals and the privacy of your patient’s records are protected.

We manage referrals so the patient gets connected with all the services they need to get the    best results.

We also help the dentists and other professionals involved in the patient’s care get as many referrals as possible, while helping the dentists who are giving the referrals to retain their patient relationships.
